Lamayuru to Darcha Trek (28 Days / 18 Days Trek)

The classic Zanskar trek starting from Lamayuru Monastery. The trek passes over many high passes offering panoramic view of Zanskar Himalayas. Good Campsite being very near to the river feels like being very much near to the nature. Enroute visiting of Beautiful Monasteries like Alchi, Stok, Matho, Likir very close to the heart of Buddhist.

There will be 9 passes to cross before our trek comes to end.

 

Day 01: Arrive Delhi

Arrive in Delhi, Transfer to nearby hotel for few hours.

 

Days 02: Flight Delhi - Leh

Transfer to domestic Airport to board flight for Leh.

Arrive Leh, transfer to hotel. Day free to get you fully acclimatise

with the altitude. Evening explore Leh Bazar. Overnighte at hotel in Leh. (3500 m)

 

Days 03: Drive Leh – Matho – Stok Palace - Shanti Stupa - Samkar

After breakfast, drive to Stok (14km) by crossing a bridge over Indus river Indus at Choglamsar village. In Stok, visit the royal palace, constructed by the king Tsespal Tondup Namgyal in 1825AD. Inside the palace, you see great collection of ancient royal ornaments, Thankas (scroll paintings) and old statues. After the visit, drive to Matho village, 10 km from Stok. This monastery was built by Lama Tumgpa Dorje in 13th century. Two famous oracles (known as Rongtsan), (who were invited from Tibet by the founder of this monastery) still make appearance during the festival of monastery.After visiting Matho, drive back to Leh. Evening, drive to visit Shanti Stupa and Samkar Monastery in Leh. Overnight at hotel in Leh.

 

Days 04: Full Day Excursion to Shey – Thiksey – Hemis – Leh

After breakfast, drive to Hemis monastery which is 45 km far from Leh and it takes 90 minute drive. The great Mahasiddha Staktsang Raspa along with great ancestor Singey Namgyal builds this biggest monastery in 16th century. After visiting this monastery, drive back to Thiksey monastery, which is 27 km from Hemis. This monastery is the oldest monastery of Gelugpa School in Ladakh. The great Lama Paldan Shesrap build in 14th century. Here you can see the big statue of the Future Buddha. After visiting this monastery drive back to Leh via visiting Shey Palace. Overnight at Guest House in Leh. After visiting this monastery drive back to Leh via Shey (Ancient capital of Ladakh). Visit the Shey Palace and temple. Inside the temple, you visit big copper gilt statue of Lord Buddh built in 1633AD.Overnight at hotel in Leh.

 

Days 05: Drive Leh – Alchi – Lamayuru (126 km)

Today you drive on Leh-Srinagar highway. After breakfast drive to Lamayuru (126km and 4hrs drive). En-route visit Alchi village (68km) and monastery. It was built by Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo (The great translator) 1000 years ago and is considered to be the largest among the entire monastery built by him. After the visit, proceed to Lamayuru still 58km. Arrive Lamayuru and visit the monastery. This monastery was constructed by Arahat Nimagung in between 10th and 11th century. History says that in the 11th century, the Mahasidha Naropa visited this place and the cave where he resided and meditated is still to be seen inside the monastery. Overnight at camp in Lamayuru. (3450 m)

 

Days 06: Trek Lamayuru – Prinkiti-la (3900 m) - Wanla – Tarchit (5 hrs)

Right, from the camp, down in the ravine passing the houses and the fields of village. This route will take you to the Prinkitila Pass (3900m). From the pass wonderful view of surrounding mountains, follow the gorge until you reach at Shillakong valley. Follow the road towards left. From this point,you see the Wanla monastery.continue along the road up to wanla. Visit Wanla Monastery then continue trek further 2km ahead to Tarchit. Good and beautiful campsite near the river. (3300 m)

 

Days 07: Trek Tarchit – Phanjila – Hanupatta (6 hrs)

From Tarchit, you will have nice walk up to Fanjila village by following the left bank of the river, At Phanjila village we will have two gorges, one goes to Zanskar and another goes to the left which leads towards Urtsi village. You take right hand side. Cross the river on a small bridge towards right then from here follow the route along the motor-road to the right of the river. From this point, Hanupatta village is still about 4 to 5 hours trek. Pass the village of Hanupatta and about 1 km ahead is the camping site on the other side of the river. Overnight at camp. (3750 m)

 

Days 08: Trek Hanupatta – Sirisir-la (4805 m) – Photoksar (7 hrs)

Start trek early from Hanupatta camp. Cross the river and follow the trek upstream along the right side. From here the pass of Sirsir-la (4805m) is about 3 to 4 hours. Cross the Tang river and start to ascend the pass along the left side. For lunch, it should be planned to cross the Sirsirla, because, it is not advisable to ascend the pass after having lunch. The camp at Photoksar is before the village and can be put either side of the small river. Overnight at camp. (4210 m)

 

Days 09: Trek Photoksar – Boumitse-la (4200m) – Base of Singey-la (7 hrs)

Today you cross easy pass. Right from the camp, while enjoying the spectacular landscape, start ascend for few meters and continue along with clear and well define path. Carry on ascending up towards the top of Boumiktse-la. From the top of the pass, you directly see the Singela Pass and enchanting panoramic view of rolling plateau and mountains. Until the base of Singe-la, you cross few small streams so it is advised to carry extra shoes in your bag so that you may not get wet. Good campsite with beautiful and wonderful view. Overnight camp. (4400 m)

 

Days 10: Trek Base of Singe-la – Singe-la (4960m) – Kyukpa-la (3850) – Skyumphatta

Right from the camp, start ascending up to top of Singe-la. It is easy to ascend but 1200m before the top, it is steep ascend in zigzag. From the pass, the route descends steeply to a loose boulder strewn area. This is called Champado Gongma. Continue along the right side of the valley, clear path up to village Skyumphatta. Beautiful and awesome view of landscape of the valley. Follow the beaten track to the Kyukpa-la Pass (3850m), easy ascend. Easy descend from the pass about 300m. and cross a clear water stream. Camp near of above the stream. Overnight: Camp at Skyumphatta village. (4000 m)

 

Days 11: Trek Skyumpatta – Lingshed – Hanamu-la Base (7 ½ hrs)

From Skyumpatta follow the trail and start ascending the Netuksila pass (4200m). It is a long ascent and advice to carry enough water as you could not find water until the camp. From the pass again follow the well-defined route to Lingshed. Visit the Lingshed monastery which is very interesting with the old statues. Lingshed monastery is constructed on the top of hill by Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo (the translator). The deity can be viewed once in a year 15th day of 4th Tibetan month. After visit Lingshed, continue towards the Hanamu-la Base by crossing the small bridge. Pass the village by ascending along the right side. Overnight at camp. (4000 m)

 

Days 12: Trek Hanamu-La Base – Hanamu-La (4700m) – Zingchen (7 ½ hrs.)

Morning after breakfast, continue trek climbing the pass right from the camp. The pass looks difficult and steep but slowly and steadily along the zig-zag path it seems easy. While following and enjoying the panoramic view of landscape and wonderful mountain, you arrive at the top of the pass. From the top of the pass, enjoy spectacular and enthralling view of landscape. Cross the pass and easy and gentle descend till you reach at Zingchen. Overnight Camp. (3410m)

 

Days 13: Trek Zingchen – Parfila (3900m) – Hanamur village (6 hrs)

Morning after breakfast, continue trek along the upstream of the river up to the Stupa from where you gently climb up to the Parfila pass. Cross the pass and gently descend down. From this point you see the magnificent and enchanting view of Landscape and view of the Zanskar River on left sid below. The camp is, about more than one hours ahead, in the tree grove of Hanamur village. Overnight at camp. (3410 m)

 

 

Days 14: Trek Hanamur –Zangla (6-7 hrs)

As usual after breakfast, continue tek along the bank of left side of the Zanskar till village Pidmo. Enroute you pass by few small villages like Pidmo and on the opposite side is village Zangla .The camp at Pishu is below the village on the grassy meadow near the bank of the Zanskar river. Overnight at camp (3430 m)

 

Day 15: Drive Zangla – Karsha – Stongde – Shilla

Today you have full day culture tour around Padum by drive. Morning after breakfast, drive to Stongde village. Visit beautiful picturesque monastery built on hill top by Lama Marpa 950 years ago.Approximately 60 monks are residing in this monastery. After the visit, continue drive to Karsha (Pair of White i.e., Outer white and Inner white). Visit Karsha monastery. This monastery is the largest of all the monastery in Zanskar and this monastery (Gonpa) was first founded by Great Lama Phagspa Shesrap (the translator of Zanskar). From the monastery, you have amazing and spectacular view of the capital of zanskar (Padum) and its surrounding mountains. After visiting the monastery, if time permits then you visit the capital of Zanskar (Padum). Explore Padum and visit the Market after then continue drive to Shilla. Overnight Camp in Shilla village. (3650 m)

 

Days 16: Trek Shilla - Raru (5/6hrs)

After breakfast, continue trek along left bank of river till Muni. En route visits Bardan monastery. Continue the journey along left bank till we reach at Bridge. Cross the river and continue along the right bank of the River up to Raru village. Overnight at Camp. (3700 m)

 

 

Days 17: Trek Raru – Kalbock (6 ½ hrs)

After breakfast, continue trek by crossing river over Bridge at Raru village. Well define ancient trek path with amazing and spectacular view of landscape. You arrive at small charming village. Pass the village and then cross the river towards right over a long wooden bridge. Continue along the bank of river up to Tsetang. After one hour reach Pipula where you find a Tea Shop. Refresh yourself and then continue with gentle climb till you reach Kalbok. Overnight Camp before houses.(3850 m)

 

Days 18: Trek Kalbock – Purney (4/5 Hrs)

After breakfast, Leave camp and continue along left side of River below. Continue trek along the left side of the river till you reach near a bridge, cross the bridge and after ten few minutes you arrive at Purney village, a beautiful and charming village with few houses. Have Lunch at Purney and enjoy the beauty of nature. Overnight at camp in Purney.(3850 m).

 

Day 19:Trek Purney – Phugtal – Purney ( 5/6 hrs)

Morning after breakfast,Follow the clear trek route and continue up along the left bank of River Tsarap for more than ½ hrs. todayyou come across and pass through beautiful gorge. Continue up in the gorge and you find bridge. Cross the bridge then gentle ascent from from where you see the Pukhtak monastery. The picturesque monastery wonderfully built on the rock cliff with a large Cave (Natural big Cave), by great Lama Changsem Sherap Zangpo. After the visit, trek back to Purney. Overnight Camp in Purney.(3850m)

 

 

Day 20: Trek Purney – Kargyak (7/8 hrs)

Morning after breakfast, continue back towards the bridge, after crossing the bidge, gentle  climb up till you reach Yal village. Continue trek along the right side of the valley. On the way, you pass through beautiful and charming villages with wonderful landscape and its surrounding awesome mountains. Pass Tetsa village, Kuru village and continue along left bank of river till you cross a bridge.Cross the river and then continue along the right bank of river till Kargyak Village. (Last Zanskar village on this trek) Overnight at camp in Kargyak.(4180m)

 

Days 21: Trek Kargyak – Pankeya (5/6 hrs)

Continue along right bank of river for ½ hrs till we reach Gombo Ranjon. Keep on trek till we cross the stream towards Tea shop. Climb for 25 minutes then continue up till you reach Camp. Overnight at Pankeya (4510m)

 

Days 22: Trek Pankeya – Shingo-la (5090m) – Zanskar Sumdo (7/8 hrs)

Today you have to cross water stream several times so it is advisable to carry extra slipper in your bag so that you may not get wet. From the camp, moderate climb up to the Shingola Pass (5090m.) and it takes about three hours to reach at the top of the pass Shingo-la (5080m).shingo-la is last pass of your trek and from the top of the pass beautiful and awesome panoramic view of landscape and mountain peaks. Cross the pass,then  easy descent,several times small River crossing , till you reach Zanskar Sumdu for overnight Camp.(4100m)

 

Days 23: Trek Zanskar Sumdo – Pal-Lhamo (5/6 Hrs)

Today you have easy trek on flat terrain. As usual morning after breakfast, you cross small river and then continue trek along the right bank of the River till you reach Palamo. Beautiful camping site with clean water. Overnight at camp.(3650m)

 

Days 24: Trek Pal-Lhamo – Rarik then drive to Manali ( 135 km drive -3 Hrs trek )

Continue along the road, cross the river over bridge then carry on trek till we reach Rarik. At Rarik village, Jeeps will be waiting for you take to Manali. Arrive Rarik then drive to Manali. Overnight at Hotel.

 

Day 25: Manali.

Day is at complete leisure or in the afternoon explore Manali city. Overnight at Hotel.

 

Day 26: Drive Manali – Chandigarh (305 kms)

Morning, after breakfast, drive to Chandigarh for overnight stay at Hotel.

 

Day 27: Chandigarh - Delhi by Train (4 hrs)

Morning after breakfast, your journey will by in the train. Drive to railway station then take shatabadi express train to Delhi. Arrive Delhi and transfer to hotel, overnight at Hotel.

 

Day 28: Departure.
